D5+GX of 12./NJG 3, Flown by Hauptmann
Eduard Schröder, Grove/Denmark, December 1943
During
this month, the RAF's Bomber Command continued its campaign against
Berlin. Located at bases in Denmark, IV./NJG 3 had excellent
opportunities to attack the bombers on their inbound and outbound
routes. The unit managed to shoot down 11 RAF four-engine bombers
in December, for the loss of two Ju 88 Cs. Schröder amassed
a total of 24 night victories flying in the unit's 12th and 3rd
Staffeln. Before joining the Nachtjagd he served with II./JG
53 claiming five daylight abschüssen including three on
the Eastern Front. Interestingly, this aircraft was tted with
the FuG 202 Litchtenstein B/C radar that by this date was effectively
being jammed by the RAF's use of "Window".
